Background

Board, committee and panel members are integral to the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the health professions (the National Scheme).

If you would like to help protect the health and safety of the public, maintain public confidence and ensure standards of practice are upheld, you may wish to consider seeking appointment as a board, committee or panel member.

Your contribution to health practitioner regulation may involve:

• setting national standards of practice for the regulated health professions 
• developing guidance for practitioners on their scope of practice, 
• making decisions about registering a practitioner or managing complaints/notifications about a practitioner’s health, performance or conduct, or
• other functions as needed by a National Board.

Time commitment varies, however, a National Board member can expect a commitment of around two or three full days per month, and may be more, in addition to travel time to and from meetings.

There are opportunities for both health practitioner and community members on boards, committees and panels. Both bring a valuable perspective to health practitioner regulation.
