Western Pacific Regional Network of Health Workforce Regulators

A vital part of the work of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Workforce Regulation (WHO CC HWR) is the Western Pacific Regional Network of Health Workforce Regulators (‘the regional collaborative network’). The regional collaborative network promotes good practice regulation and cross-country learning on health workforce regulation.

The network holds webinars four times per year and has members from over 20 countries in the region, seeking to share knowledge on regulation and working together to improve standards. Each webinar hosts a key presentation on a topic of interest to member states. This provides an opportunity for member states and other key stakeholders to share their expertise and experiences with the regional network.

2023 meeting schedule

The regional collaborative network has set the following meeting dates for 2023:

• 15 February
• 24 May
• 16 August
• 15 November

All meetings are held from 2pm to 3pm Melbourne, Australia time via Zoom.

Recent topics

Each webinar hosts one or two key presenters who cover a topic in their area of experience and/or expertise. Recent topics have included:

• Establishment and quality improvement of the national examination for nurses and midwives in Lao PDR
• Establishing a health practitioner regulation framework in Tuvalu: Challenges and opportunities
• Development of a competency-based approach to learning recognition by the WHO Academy
• The Medical Council of New Zealand’s approach to strengthened continuing professional development
• Work of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities
• Global healthcare regulation
